Council Of Hall Chairpersons Writes SRC, Proposes Increment In Basic Hall Dues

The Council of Hall Chairpersons have written to the Students Representative Council (SRC), University of Ibadan to propose a more than sixty percent (60%) increase in the basic hall dues for students across halls of residence on campus.

The letter dated 30th March and signed by the council's chairperson, Anifowose Nofisat and secretary, Adenekan Adeifeoluwa and addressed to the SRC clerk proposed that the dues be increased from three thousand naira (N3,000) to five thousand naira (N5,000).

According to the council, the proposal comes in the light rising maintenance costs, improved hall services and the need to enhance the overall welfare of students in their respective halls.

"This proposed increment has been carefully considered in light of rising maintenance costs, improved hall services, and the need to enhance the overall welfare of students in their respective halls. Over time, the current fee has proven insufficient to meet essential expenses, including sanitation, security,
and infrastructural maintenance, which are critical to ensuring a conducive living environment for students."

The council then requested a meeting with the SRC to discuss the proposed increment.

"In light of this, we kindly request an opportunity to engage with the SRC in a formal discussion where we can present our rationale in detail, address any concerns, and explore possible measures to ensure that the increment is both justifiable and beneficial to the student body. We look forward to your cooperation and a favourable response regarding a suitable date for this discussion," the letter concluded.
