Council of Faculty Presidents Write SRC, Proposes Increment in Basic Dues

The Council of Faculty Presidents, UI have written to the University of Ibadan Students' Representative Council to propose an increment in basic dues payable by students in the school from ₦3,000 to ₦5,000.

In the letter dated 3rd April, 2025, the council stated that this decision was made after "careful deliberation" among the faculty presidents and that the current due of ₦3,000 is "no longer sufficient to cater to the vision and activities of our various associations."

"With the increasing costs of organizing
events, our associations are struggling to provide quality services and programs for
our members. Specifically, the ₦3,000 is no longer enough to organize constitutional and customary events such as Freshers' Week, dinner, faculty week,
elections, Dean's cup, and sessional packages, etc. For instance, the production of a fairly quality notebook costs between ₦1,200 to ₦1,600," the letter read in part.

The council further stated that it understands that the proposed increase may cause inconvenience, especially
during this time of ongoing struggle over fee hikes. However, it believes that the
benefits of the increment outweigh the costs. It further stated that it is committed to ensuring that any increase is properly utilized and accounted for.

"We would like to request an avenue to engage with the SRC to further deliberate
on the proposed increment. We are open to negotiations and willing to work
together to find a solution that benefits the student body," the letter concluded.
