Fire Outbreak in Zik Hall, Residents Blame Faulty Circuit Breakers and Negligence

A fire incident occurred in Room B74 of Zik Hall this morning at approximately 10:50 a.m., creating a scene of panic and confusion among students. While the fire was promptly contained, the incident has sparked debates over the safety standards and preventive measures in the Hall.

Speaking with ZIKPRESS, Al'amin Adedayo, the resident of the affected room, recounted his surprise upon returning from a test and practical session to find his room engulfed in smoke. "I wasn’t around when the fire started. By the time I arrived, others were already attempting to put it out," 

Adedayo acknowledged the Hall management's swift response but expressed concerns about underlying issues. “The electricians came quickly, and that was a good move from the management."

"But the fire was due to an electrical fault. The hall management needs to replace the circuit breakers because the ones we have are not properly functioning.”

Yet, there are differing opinions from neighboring residents regarding the cause of the fire. Afolabi Heritage, from Room B73, questioned the electrical fault theory. "I don’t think it was an electrical spark. The fire spread too quickly for that to be the cause," he said.

Another resident, speaking anonymously from Room B75, offered a different explanation, suggesting negligence might be the cause. “The hotplate was left on and placed near the cupboard. When I saw the fire, I had to alert the guys in the next room,” he said.
