"Ban on Electoral Activities to Be Lifted in Two Days”—UI Students’ Union Electoral Commission

The Students’ Union Electoral Commission, University of Ibadan (SUECUI), has announced that the ban on electoral activities will be lifted on Saturday, January 18, 2025, paving the way for the long-awaited 2023/2024 Students’ Union elections.

In a statement released by the commission, signed by Olanrewaju Ibrahim Osiga, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, and Olaniyi Sodeeq Dolapo, Chairman of the Logistics Committee, candidates, campaign teams, and stakeholders were urged to prepare for a smooth and responsible electoral process. The commission emphasized the need for all participants to adhere to strict electoral guidelines to ensure a fair and orderly election.

A detailed timetable for the electoral activities was also provided, outlining the key events leading up to the elections. Notable dates include the opening of nomination forms from January 20 to 31, 2025, the screening of candidates on February 15, 2025, and the Students’ Executive Council (S.E.C.) Election set for February 22, 2025. Following this, the Students’ Representative Council (S.R.C.) Election will take place on March 1, 2025.

Additional important milestones include Press Night on February 19, Manifesto Night on February 21, and the nomination and screening for S.R.C. candidates in March. These events are set to provide a platform for candidates to showcase their policies and vision for the university community.

SUECUI stressed the importance of maintaining respect for university rules and fostering unity throughout the electoral period. The commission also called on candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with integrity and decorum, reflecting the democratic values of the institution.
