The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan, has announced the suspension of the Jaw War quarter-finals (Faculty Round), originally scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024.
This development comes after a petition submitted by the senator representing Independence Hall, which has triggered a series of disciplinary proceedings within the society.
According to an internal memo released by the society's Disciplinary Committee, the senator from Independence Hall alleged a case of unfair treatment during the last round of the competition, held on December 5, 2024. The petition also demanded that sanctions be imposed on the Society's President, Ogonna Okere, over the perceived irregularities.
In light of these accusations, the committee has convened an emergency Senate meeting to address the claims. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Student Affairs conference room.
The postponement of the Faculty Round of the quarter-finals is expected to allow the society to resolve the issue and ensure fairness in its operations.
