Earlier today, Saturday, 23rd of November, 2024, the Judicial Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, University of Ibadan, convened to deliberate on a case involving two hall residents accused of violating the hall's code of conduct.
The charges stemmed from allegations that the accused parties had engaged in prohibited activities by washing directly beside the hall’s water tanks, an area explicitly off-limits for such practices as contained in part B, Item 2 of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Approved Code of
Conduct 2024.
The accused parties, Akujobi James Chibueze (First Defendant) and Agun John Oluwatobi (Second Defendant), when arraigned before the Judicial Council, pled guilty to the charges placed before them.
Despite their admission, the prosecution presented a thorough case to fulfill its obligation of proving the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
Delivering the judgment, Bamidele T. P, the Chief Judge, imposed multiple penalties on the accused. Each was fined 2,000 naira and mandated to participate in two compulsory water tank washing exercises as part of their restitution.
Furthermore, the judgment required them to draft and publicly submit a letter of undertaking, wherein they pledged to abstain from washing near the water tanks in the future. The court also warned of stiffer consequences, including heavier fines, should they be found violating the hall's code of conduct again.
