The Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) naming bill has passed the first reading at the floor of the Hall's legislative council held on 24th of November 2024.
The bill which was sponsored by the executive council of Zik Hall aimed at immortalizing the memory of the former Hall Warden of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, Late Prof Ọpẹ́yẹmà Ajewole a.k.a Iroko.
Representing the Executive Council, the Hall Chairman, Fabiyi Oluwadamilare Caleb explained the significance of Prof Iroko to the Hall, saying "Professor Ajewole served as the Hall Chairman and the Hall Warden of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall before his death and one of the ways to keep his memory in the hall is to rename the JCR after him."
The bill also features the engravement of the new name of the Junior Common Room at the entrance of the room to inform the public that the Common Room has been named after Professor Ajewole.
After the deliberation on the bill, the Speaker passed the bill for the first reading following the motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Hon Ojile Moses and seconded by Hon Philipson.
