The Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the University of Ibadan Students' Representative Council, Rt. Hon. Opegbemi Mathias Busoye has said that the main cause of the blackout at the Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall of residence is due to the situation in the ownership of the halls and University College Hospital (UCH) which the residents of the hall are caught in-between.

He made this assertion during the ordinary sitting of the house on Saturday, 16th of November, 2024 while responding to Hon. Olusola Adeoti representing Ayodele Falase Hall who raised question about the intervention of the Students Union on the situation in UCH.

Recall that the University College Hospital (UCH) community which includes Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall have been in power blackout for 3 weeks which made the residents of ABH started a boycott of all activities on Monday 11th of November 2024. The Speaker however stated that Students' Union is helpless in approaching the issue, "...currently there's nothing the Union can do in terms of negotiation except to take drastic move," he stated.

He further apologised for the total negligence of Ayodele Falase Hall as stated by Hon Adeoti, citing it as oversight which will be promptly tabled before the university management.
