Queen Idia Hall emerged as the standout performer during the inter-hall round of Jaw War 2024, held at the University of Ibadan’s New Faculty Lecture Theatre on November 26, with the highest team score of the round and the Best Speaker award secured by Amoo Oluwabukunmi.
The debates, centered on the theme “Africa’s Travails and Triumphs: Moving Forward, Learning from the Past,” provided a platform for participants to dissect the continent’s historical struggles and propose actionable solutions for its future.
Queen Idia Hall’s 76.1% to 61.6% victory over Mellanby Hall was a clear demonstration of their intellectual prowess and strategic approach to the topic.
Other matches witnessed intense rivalry, with Independence Hall narrowly defeating Tedder Hall 72.5% to 72.25%, and Queen Elizabeth Hall edging Bello Hall by 66.8% to 66.6%.
Defending champions Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall continued their dominance, overcoming Kuti Hall 67.3% to 65.1%. Meanwhile, Obafemi Awolowo Hall triumphed over Alexander Brown Hall with a 71.6% to 66% scoreline.
Judges Dr. Demola Lewis, Mr. Morgan Stephen, Mr. Temitope Ishola, and Mr. Elaabo Hawaal evaluated the debaters on their delivery, factual accuracy, and composure.
