Archaeology pummeled LARIS 4-0 during the group stage of the ongoing Seals Cup played on the 9th of August 2024 at the SUB pitch.
The deadlock was broken midway through the first half through a set piece opportunity, when Kemi, the archaeology forward, whipped in a swirling cross from the right wing, with her effort, courtesy of a slight deflection, finding its way into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Most chances in the game came via set pieces, as LARIS came close to leveling the scoreline when their winger's cross beat the goalkeeper but was denied by the crossbar. Late in the first half, the scoreline was doubled when the archeology defender committed a handball in the penalty box and the referee blew for penalty. Kemi, who opened the scoreline, stepped up to the plate and doubled the advantage, sending the goalkeeper else way with her well-taken spotkick.
There seemed to be a change of momentum in the second half as LARIS came out swinging. They almost pulled one goalback after the LARIS forward was played through, but her effort was blocked by the defender. Archeology females almost compounded the woes of LARIS from a quick counter; a nice dink was played over the top from the midfield, but the winger's final pass to the striker was too strong for her to get a foothold of. Coach Jayson of archeology rang in a change, sending Connie in to add more attacking firepower.
The substitute had a quick impact after receiving a well-timed pass and fired a low strike which found its way into the back of the net to make it 3-0. As if that was not enough, Connie completed her brace towards the tail end of the game, pouncing on a lethargic defending from LARIS after the defender played a loose ball, which Connnie fired to the top corner, beating the goalie the second time to make it 4-0. LARIS had chances of scoring a consolation, but the watertight defense of the Coach Jayson side remained resolute as the referee signaled the end of the encounter.
