The Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Legislative Council has levied a fine of three thousand naira (₦3,000) on all the honourable members who were absent in the plenary sitting held on Sunday, 27th of July 2024 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Junior Common Room (JCR).
The motion to levy the fine was moved by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Moses Ojile on the basis that it is disrespectful to the Council for honourable members to be absent from the sitting. Hon. Victor Olanihun proceeded to moved a subsidiary motion that all honourable members who had sent a prior notice to the clerk should be excused from the fine. The Speaker of the house, Hon. Adetunji Samson then requested the clerk, Hon. Tariq Agboola read the name(s) of any member who had sent a prior notice 24 hours before the time of the sitting as stated in the Standing Order of the house but the Clerk responded that no absent member sent a prior notice to the house. The motion was then passed by the Speaker.
Members of the Council who will be affected by the fine levied on them as at press time are: Hon Adesina Jude, Hon Adebayo Similoluwa, Hon Achaka Ahmed, Hon Sodiq Hassan and Hon Boluwatife Delemo.
