The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan (TLDS'UI), under the administration of Okere Ogonna, announces the milestone of having a secretariat at the Kunle Adepeju Building (SUB).
One could say this is long overdue as the TLDS'UI is a large society on campus, the umbrella society of all hall and faculty literary and debating societies, and the organizer of the biggest event on campus, JAW WAR.
In a chat with the president of the society, he expressed his excitement about the development of the society. _"Well, this development is one I'm really grateful and excited about. The beautiful part is that the vision to have a secretariat at the Students' Union Building did not just start from me or even my predecessor. It was the vision of three to four previous presidents that was passed down and I'm just really glad that it was actualized during my administration. For us as a society, it strengthens our position as one of the biggest societies within the University of Ibadan"_, he said.
He further stated the significant impact which the secretariat will have on the society. _"First, with this secretariat, it means that I and my executive council will no longer be looking for venues each time we want to meet. It would also cater perfectly for committee meetings and planning sessions for JawWar and other TLDS events. Additionally, it will serve as a repository for society's records and essential documents. In the future, we are looking to transform the secretariat into a hub where members of LnDs can brainstorm, research, work on speeches and refine their literary and debating abilities"_, he stated.
In their announcement, the society expressed gratitude to the current Student Union President, Mr. Aweda Bolaji, who was the former TLDS'UI president, for making it a reality, and to others like Neyen Williams (who was also the society president before Aweda Bolaji), Ayeni Otito-Jesu, Dara Olaniyan, and Sadik Oluwagbenga. They also thanked their alumni body and staff advisers.
The new office is situated at Suite 16B, Kunle Adepeju Building (SUB), University of Ibadan.
