Eight students of the University of Ibadan have on Tuesday, 30th of July, petitioned the executives of the Students Union for refusing to call for a congress.
"We students of the University of Ibadan hereby write to petition the University of Ibadan Students' Union leadership for refusal to respond to the request for a general meeting of the Students' Union, University of Ibadan,” the petition read.
The call for congress was “hinged on the need to re – evaluate the general outcome of the July 16 and 17, protests, “ and its relation to “increment in school fees and victimization of UI’SDC 3, “ and other issues.
The refusal of the SU to call for congress was condemned as “unconstitutional and unbecoming of people who people who purportedly representing the interests of students.”
The statement concluded by saying that at the end of a three-day ultimatum which will lapse on Friday, 2nd of August, 2024, further refusal to call a congress will lead to peaceful demonstrations at the Kunle Adepeju building.
