The Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) has in recent times experienced a heavy congestion of users and conflicting schedules, despite it's relative unavailability to Zikites in recent times.
This particular incident featured the Zik Hall Football Association, Rotaract Club UI, and Christ Ambassador Students Outreach for the use of the room by 5 p.m.
The Zik Hall Football Association were holding a press conference ahead of the Zik Hall League that is starting on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in the JCR. The conference, which began at 4 p.m., spanned till around 5 p.m. A few minutes after 5 p.m., the users of the room—Zik F.A., club owners, and campus journalists—were forced to wrap up quickly while at the important part of the event because it was obvious that there were other individuals who were waiting to use the room. However, the real interesting thing happened when the journalists and the organizers of the press conference vacated the room only to discover that there were two different associations—CASOR UI (a fellowship) and Rotaract Club UI—waiting to use the JCR at the same time.
While speaking with a member of CASOR UI, it was gathered that the fellowship are regular users of the JCR, which they have paid for. "We have always been using this place regularly every Thursday because we have paid the hall management for it, so I don't know why Rotaract Club are also here today, but I guess they have been arranging another venue for them," the person revealed.
Also, a member of Rotaract Club UI approached the Zik Hall Chairman and the Speaker for a solution to the congestion, and the chairman bluntly told the person to reach the appropriate authority because it was not the executive council that rented out the JCR to them.
It is important to state that since Tuesday, July 9, 2024, some concerned Zikites have begun a process of petitioning the authority and free access of all Zikites into JCR to the Hall Management by requesting the signatures of 500 Zikites to sign the petitioning document. This action was caused by the deprivation of Zikites of JCR on many occasions due to constant use by outsiders, as explained by the individuals.
Although it is generally believed that the JCR should be available for the use of Zikites at any time of the day, the validity of this assertion is what still lingers in the minds of all concerned Zikites.
