Amnesty International has called on the University of Ibadan to cancel the attempt to expel three students of the university for protesting against fee hike which is their fundamental human right.
The organisation made this pronouncement through their X page (formerly Twitter) handle (AmnestyNigeria) on the 2nd of July 2024, exactly by 4:15 pm.
"Amnesty International call on the University of Ibadan @UniIbadan to rescind plans to expel 3 students for exercising their human right; by participating in protest against outrageous fee hike that — so far — forced many students to withdraw from university education: The University of Ibadan had invited the three students: Olamide Gbadegeshin, Aduwo Ayodele and Nice Linus to appear before a ‘disciplinary committee’ in what appears to be an attempt to intimidate them. In the face of the worst economic crisis, universities should be reducing fees", the organisation stated.
Recall that the university invited the three students for questioning by the Students Disciplinary Committee of the university for 'gross misconduct'.
