In this week episode of Village Beauty, we had an exclusive interview with Miss Akintola Oluwafunmilayo who is popularly known as Funmi Vibes, a 400 level student of the department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan. She is the current Hall Chairperson of Queen Idia Hall. In this interview with a Zik Hall Press correspondent, she shares her views on Zik Hall and on student leadership in UI.
Zik Hall Press: Miss Funmi Vibes, Kindly introduce yourself.
Funmi Vibes: I am Akinola Oluwafunmilayo, the Hall Chairperson Queen Idia Hall, a 400l student in the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Agriculture.
Zik Hall Press: Nice meeting you, Miss Funmi. Aside from academics, what else do you engage in?
Funmi Vibes: I learnt the art of Photography in late 2020 early 2021 although I didn’t finish because school resumed. I have good photography skills so I take people’s pictures with my phone.
Zik Hall Press: That's incredible. The name "Funmi Vibes" is a name that most UItes are conversant with, how did you come about the moniker? Is there a story behind it?
Funmi Vibes: There’s no much story behind it o. I just have inbuilt energy in me and I’ve got a lot of vibes.
Zik Hall Press: That's amazing, hence the name Funmi with the Vibes. As someone that is energetic, what are your hobbies?
Funmi Vibes: Singing, dancing and playing; I love to play a lot.
Zik Hall Press: Talking about singing, what genre of music do you take interest in?
Funmi Vibes: Afrobeats and Gospel.
Zik Hall Press: Lately Afrobeats has been gaining waves globally, who is your go to Afrobeats artist?
Funmi Vibes: Tiwa Savage, I get compliments that I look like her sha.
Zik Hall Press: Wow, do you believe you look like her?
Funmi Vibes: Kinda, especially when I’m on make up but I don’t just have the body.
Zik Hall Press: You must be a great fan of Tiwa Savage, I guess. Talking about the Hall of Residences in UI, what is your experience with Zik Hall?
Funmi Vibes: Zik Hall. Hmmmm I’ve not had any bad experiences per say let me just say I’m loved by Zikites because most of my guys are there. Even the current Hall Chairperson attended the same school I did.
Zik Hall Press: Do you have any remarkable experience with Zik Hall?
Funmi Vibes: Yes. The Rally. There’s this Unity that abides in the Hall which I really love so much.
Zik Hall Press: The bond of brotherhood. If you could advise Zikites, is there anything that you want them to do better?
Funmi Vibes: There’s nothing. I feel everything is okay over there at the moment.
Zik Hall Press: What unpopular opinion do you have about Zik Hall?
Funmi Vibes: I don’t have any.
Zik Hall Press: All right. Being the Hall Chairperson of Queen Idia Hall and a student leader with astute experience in leadership, what are your experiences in student leadership in UI?
Funmi Vibes: My experiences as a student leader in UI have been worthwhile and lessons have been learnt, because as a student leader you have to be really careful and do things right. I pray the lord will help me all through my tenure as the Hall Chairperson.
Zik Hall Press: What were your major challenges during the course of getting into office as the Hall Chairperson of Queen Idia Hall?
Funmi Vibes: I didn’t really have much challenges tho but I was just hearing this one said this, this one said that.
Zik Hall Press: How were you able to overcome hearsays?
Funmi Vibes: One can’t be perfect and not everyone will like you so I didn’t really take it to heart.
Zik Hall Press: That's thoughtful, what advice do you have for someone that wants to take up leadership position in UI?
Funmi Vibes: Get involved in student groups and activities, build connections, and stay informed about leadership opportunities at UI to prepare for a leadership position.
Zik Hall Press: As we wrap things up, what do you think about feminism in the current Nigeria political landscape?
Funmi Vibes: I think feminism in the current Nigeria political landscape is gaining more attention and momentum. It's important to have discussions and actions that promote gender equality and empower women in all aspects of society, including politics. The push for more representation and inclusion of women in political leadership roles is crucial for a more diverse and equitable political landscape in Nigeria.
Zik Hall Press: Wow, that's incredible. Your stance on feminism is admirable. Do you have any parting words as we end?
Funmi Vibes: Remember to always keep your head up, stay positive, and keep shining bright like the star you are.
