The Tax Club Holds 6th Edition of Tax Watch

The Tax Club, University of Ibadan, a foremost student organization, aimed at preparing students for opportunities in taxation, as an area of career and promoting the awareness and relevance of taxation in the various sectors of the economy, held its annual tax conference, titled "Tax Watch 6.0", on Saturday, 2nd of March 2024. 

 The event which was held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan featured tax experts, administrators, entrepreneurs, enthusiasts and students.

The welcome address was delivered by the president of the club, Oriire Agbaje, who is also a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms which was inaugurated last year by president bola tinubu.

 The event was also graced by Dr Gbenga Daniel FCA, PhD head of Western region of FIRS, and also by Barrister Samuel Agbeluyi, President , Chatered institute of taxation, Nigeria; as well as Chief Akinyele Oladeji among others.

 The keynote speaker, Professor Muritala Awodun, a former director of Kwara state Internal revenue service, spoke on the theme of the event "Leveraging Data analytics for sustainable tax planning", during which he spoke on ways for tax effectiveness.

There were also panel discussions on use of data analytics in tax fraud detection and also on personal finance for young professionals, building wealth and financial financial independence 

The event also featured tax hack, a competition for other tax clubs in other university to profer solutions to hypothetical and real life tax problems. University of Ilorin was second runner up, Babcock university was first runner up while University of Lagos emerged as overall winner.
