The calls for a peaceful demonstration have come after the hall chairman, Adeniji Uthman (Yamburger) had reeled out various issues affecting the hall. Uthman, in his address at the congress, conveyed that the hall management had reached out to the school management on various occasions but with little to no response. Stating his displeasure at the slow reaction of the school management, he opened the congress floor for congressmen to proffer solutions on how the executives can prompt rapid responses from the school management.
Hassan Adedayo, a resident of C3 constituency suggested a peaceful demonstration. While giving his proposed measure, Adedayo recounted the story of how another Zikite had accidentally fallen from the second floor due to the absence of louvres at the the back of the room, but had averted a heavy injury after being rescued by window panes, underscoring the lack of basic necessities in Zik hall rooms.
Another congressman and a Zik Hall representative at the Students Representative Council (UI'SRC), Adedeji Isaiah, suggested a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice Chancellor by few Zikites, which he volunteered to be among, using it as an avenue to air the hall's pain points. However, he stated that if the visit does not effect necessary changes in due time, Zikites should resolve to using the demonstration measure.
Damife Odunukan, a floor representative of A1 constituency, explained the story of how the toilets on his floor have been filled and clogged with feces over the past few months, and how his floor members have had to resort to using toilets on other floors. He narrated that all his efforts to reach out to plumbers have been to no avail. Damife opined that a petition be sent to the school management to employ more electricians and plumbers. He also lent credence to a peaceful demonstration.
Okoh Daniel, another Zikite present at the congress, suggested that Zikites find temporary solutions on their own to certain issues, stating examples of dilapidated toilets in C Block that have been revamped by Zikites without aids from the hall management or school authority.
Reacting to the suggestions, Yamburger announced on the congress floor that a form will be sent to every member of the hall through their floor representatives to garner the number of Zikites in support of the demonstration. He stated that the number of affirmative signatures after 48 hours will determine the stance of the hall regarding the demonstration.
While this reporter reached out to the hall chairman on the number of signatures needed to accent the demonstration, he conveyed,
we need at least to have at least 200 people (signatures) to form a quorum
