A group of Concerned students in the University of Ibadan have written a letter to the Executive Council and Representative council of the Student Union, demanding for the urgent organization of a congress on Tuesday 3rd of October 2023.
A copy of the letter received by ZHPO which was signed received by the SU Executive Council and dated 3/10/23, reads:
” Hinged on the need to check in on the general welfare of students of the University of Ibadan, a letter demanding for Congress with over 250 signatories as provided for in Article 13 of the students Union construction was acknowledged by the students Union on the 25th of August, 2023.
That the students’ Union has flagrantly refused to heed the call for a Congress, and we find this refusal unconstitutional and unbecoming of people who are purportedly representing the interests of the students”
” As issues of concern on campus continue to exist without the resolute intervention of UI’SU, we recognize and restate the urgency of a need for a Congress. Against this backdrop, we strongly demand that the UI’SU calls for a Congress to check in on the general welfare of students.
At the expiration of four working days ultimatum, which will lapse on Friday, 6th of October, 2023, further refusal to heed this call would have us resolve to peaceful demonstrations to press home our demands as provided in 5.40 of the Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, at the Kunle Adepeju Memorial Student Union building”
The letter was signed by Aduwo Ayodele, Linus Nice, Adediran Faith and Olajide Olawale. For context, it should be noted that the Great Ife Students Union, OAU, had on Monday, 2nd of October, 2023 organized a congress to discuss pressing national issues affecting their student body.
