Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall swears in the new Attorney General, Bamidele Taiwo Paul alongside his new Ethics and Litigation committee at its official handover ceremony on Sunday 17th of September 2023.
The ceremony which was held on a short notice started off at 8pm at Zikhall’s Junior Common Room, JCR. The occasion had in attendance notable hall personalities such as Hall Chairman, Adeniji Uthman; Hons. Fabiyi Caleb, former General secretary and present hall majority leader at the SRC; and erstwhile Attorney General of the hall, Emmanuel Otumala, who also served as the Compere of the occasion.
The event also saw the new Attorney General and his litigation committee charged with agendas for the new session. The agendas include; Enforcement of the rules, Try to familiarize Zikites with code of conduct, To have members on each floor, Try to improve the code of conduct if possible, Create awareness to all Zikites,Perform their duties according to the constitution, The law should be above “Brotherhood”.
The members themselves need to respect the constitution, We should try to report to the Hall Warden, Try to differentiate “Ethics” from “Ethnicity”, As the Attorney General, you need to be the head of the prosecuting officer, To create Webinar or seminar for judicial literacy, Functionality in the committee is crucial, Looking beyond oneness, togetherness and brotherhood, Proper scrutiny of the existing code of conduct, Look into omissions, Do not necessarily need to wait for evidences, can get witnesses and other ways of reasonably establishing an act of offense.
The event also featured awards for the preceding Attorney General and members of the Ethics and litigation committee for the last session.
In a brief chat with ZHPO, Mr. Bamidele had this to say “Sincerely I appreciate the hall for the privilege and I promise to Put in all my effort to make sure that rules and regulations are abided by, and to make sure that this particular organ of the hall is more active in terms of maintaining law and order in the hall”.
The Attorney General and the Ethics and Litigation committee are saddled with keeping and upholding law and order in the hall of residence, with the license to prosecute any student that is found wanting of going against the rules of the hall.
