To commemorate the yearly world cleanup day, Recycledge, the Junior Chamber International UI Chapter, the University of Ibadan Students Union, Cardify, in conjunction with other organizations, have organized the world cleanup day in the university of Ibadan on the 16th of September, 2023.
The exercise which is annually marked by a cleaning exercise, saw the above listed organizations combine to clean up the U.I environment, starting from the University main gate.
Turning up for the exercise, over one hundred volunteers, who were provided with masks and gloves gathered to clear dirts in different parts of the university of Ibadan environment.
The World Clean up day is an annual event organized to improve the sensitization of the general public on environmental cleanliness and combat the improper management of solid wastes. The aim of the UI Mega clean up, in particular, was to gather 2000kg of recyclable wastes in the University of Ibadan as part of the plans to ensuring a sustainable environment.
In addition to the cleaning exercise, volunteers were orientated on recycling and waste management. Apart from Nigeria, the event holds in at least 160 other countries since its inception in 2018.
The event, which had some side attractions like fitness and games was sponsored by Plogging,YALI Nigeria and Recycling Alliance.
