Nnamdi Azikiwe hall on Wednesday, 20th of September, 2023 organized a anti-drug/ anticultism rally. This is coming as part of a series of activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the hall.
The rallying Zikites converged at Zik carpark from where they moved to different halls in the school campus. They carried with them different placards bearing messages and incriptions against drug abuse and cultism.
Sequel to the drug and cultism campaign rally, ZHPO reached out to the hall executives. And in an interview with the executive Hall chair of Nnamdi Azikiwe hall, Adeniji Uthman Akanbi, he revealed that the main object of the rally was to remove the misconception in some quaters that zikism is cultism. According to him “…some people are saying zikism is cultism. So we are marking the 60th anniversary of Zik hall with this campaign to show that in the history of this hall, there has been no traces of cultism”
Furthermore, he revealed that there has been an increase in the rate of drug trafficking and use in Nigerian universities. And this has necessitated a need for adequate sensitization and enlightenment.
When asked what Zikites should expect from the hall week celebrations, Yamburger said that Zikites should look forward to a variety of activities and entertaining events in the hall week. Also there will be more activities after the hall week. A leadership and financial summit was in the works according to him.
He concluded by saying that the current activities are still small scale, and that with the involvement of alumni, the 60th anniversary of the hall could produce bigger results.
Cultism and drug abuse is one of the common vices amongst Nigerian youths. According to NDLEA , 40 percent of Nigerian youths are involved in drug abuse.
Zik hall 60th anniversary celebration continues tomorrow, Thursday, 21st of September, 2023 with a movie night.
