Two Clean Sheets in a Row as Baluba Lions Defeats Tedder and FATSSA in Friendly Matches

By Thunder Balogun and Jerry

The Baluba lions proved once again that they are truly the undisputed UI sport king as they kept two clean sheets win in a row against Tedder hall and the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students Association. This came as a fulfillment of one of the promises made by Jamiu Kareem, the sport minister in his manifesto which is the first plan stated. He said “If elected, in a bid to solidify the glory of the hall as the undisputed UI sport king, I look forward to organizing a sport tour in which Zikites engage other hall of residence in selected sporting activities. This would come carried out as soon as the next academic session starts. It would serve as a means of preparation for the sportsmen against inter-hall competition”.

BALUBA LIONS VS TEDDER HALL

On the first of April, 2023, the Baluba Lions played against Tedder hall. The official kickoff time was 9:30am but the match started late around past 11am because Tedder hall players showed up late. The match ended 1 nil in favour of the Baluba Lions. In the lead up to the goal, the zik hall team switched to a high press attack giving J. Kareem the opportunity to have the ball, he accurately passed the ball to Bunkunmi who later converted the chance putting Zik hall in the lead. The Tedder hall attack couldn’t match Zik hall’s defensive instinct as they were unable to break the defence to ensure that a clean sheet was kept.

After the match, the Sports Minister was approached by a Zik Press correspondent on the officiating. He said “There was no wrong call, the officiating was fair enough”. He also assured that zikites should expect more sporting activities this semester.

BALUBA LIONS VS FATSSA

On the 10th of April, the Baluba lions played against the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students Association. The match started around 5:58pm. Like the match against Tedder hall, Zik hall won by one goal to nil. The goal which was scored from the spot was due to a foul committed by a FATSSSA player in the box-18 which made the refree call for a penalty. Afo scored the penalty as the goalkeeper couldn’t beat his mind games. It was also noted that Afo missed an empty net in the first half after the goal keeper was successfully destabilized by the attacking prowess of our forwards but Afo couldn’t seal the chance. The pressure of the attack from the opposition team was successfully doused off by Zik hall’s defenders as they have kept 2 clean sheets in a row.

It is hoped that the Baluba Lions keep up this winning streak into inter-hall football competition coming up later in the semester.
