D Block's Water Supply Problem Solved as Nadal Leads Elders to Address Facility Issues

Residents of D Block, popularly known as the Elders’ block, resumed to no water supply to the block and deteriorating bathroom facilities, which the Elders’ Council and the hall’s management have risen to tackle.

In the previous session, the hall management had made provision of a borehole to meet the water needs of D Blockites. ZHPO gathered that the D Block pump machine had developed a fault before resumption. Also, the bathrooms on the second floor had been rendered unusable due to a leaking overhead pipe that drains the water from the upper floor’s bathroom.

This has forced D Blockites to seek alternatives from water tanks in other blocks or resort to Indy hall for water. Similarly, occupants of the second floor have had to share bathrooms on other floors. This might seem to be an untenable alternative as the early morning rush might lead to bathroom congestions.

Of course, if the second floor Elders wouldn’t mind, the problem could be solved by simply standing under the water running from the upper floor’s bathrooms – a second-hand bath water solution. However, the time length of the issue makes it one requiring immediate attention.

The newly inaugurated Elders’ Council has, however, risen to the occasion. Adewale Adegunju, alias Nadal, Chairman of the Council told ZHPO that the hall management is helping with the water situation. He said, “the hall management is helping us with it. They are the ones fixing the faulty pump machine.”

He further discussed the plumbers’ efforts in fixing the machine. He said on Saturday that, “the plumbers came today and tried their best to fix it but they didn’t get it because the machine would begin to work and then stop. But they promised to come back to work on it.” Based on latest findings, the pump machine has been fixed and D Block presently enjoys water supply.

On the bathroom condition, Nadal explained that the plumbers were approached to look into the bathroom conditions. According to him, “We negotiated with the plumbers on the cost of fixing the bathroom. We later came to an agreement for them to fix the bathroom. Also they helped us to wash the overhead tanks in D block that supply water to the showers and sinks`.”

Nadal also mentioned that D Block Elders made financial contributions towards the project. “We paid for the tank-washing and the fixing of the bathrooms. This was proudly sponsored by all D Blockites. We paid a total of six thousand naira for that. I personally moved around to collect money from those who were around.”
