The Nnamdi Azikiwe hall’s newly inaugurated legislative council on Sunday 30th of January 2022, approved the sum of eight thousand naira as the official fee for the hall dues and packages for the 2021/2022 school session.
The sitting which was held at the hall’s JCR, is the first of the session for the council, since their inauguration, and had some drags as the new house members try to adjust to the legislative process. Notable was the fact that some of the floor representatives were not inappropriately dressed and some absentees were observed also.
The sitting had in attendance the Hall Chairman, Mr Moriselade, who presented and defended the hall dues budget. He apologized for his lateness with the excuse that the executives were dealing with the influx of new students who were making their way into the hall for the first time.
The hall dues is broken down into five areas, which includes; basic dues; 3000, hall shirt; 3000, hall magazine; 1000, hall constitution; 500, and fresher’s welcome; 500.
The basic due of 3000 is the only compulsory sum to be paid by the hall’s residents for the session. It must be noted that, this is the highest amount slated for basic dues paid in the hall since its inception, which raises the question of its expensiveness. The hall chairman however argued that with the current economic situation in the country and ever increasing prices of goods, there is a need to increase the hall dues to meet the administrative demands If the hall in terms of finances as well as to provide quality items as packages.
It is worthy of note, that the last administration gave out a T-shirt and book as souvenir which was not well accepted by some part of the hall residence. And in fact, an honourable member of the new house, voiced out his disappointment and displeasure at the quality of the last package. So, it is expected that the new administration will improve on the past administrations record given the increase in the hall dues.
