N.B: This will be a short one.
Zik Hall, the most prominent Hall among the Halls in the University of Ibadan has since time immemorial been on the apex of pecking order in terms of academic excellence, vibrancy, oneness and popular participation, all encapsulated into the true and unwavering philosophy of ZIKISM.
It would be strange or preposterously ludicrous to a stranger or first-time passer-by that for just no obvious reason, an individual having studied to stupor, would emanate from the Hall’s reading room, climbing the topmost floor just to shout “IWE LE MI OOO“; indeed very comical.
There are times when for no just reason and this shares attributes of exemplification with the former, a Zikite would shout at the top of his voice ‘MO FE JEUN OOO’. I particularly look forward to this exact comic inducing phrase with great expectation because the resultant is other Zikites answering him in very non sequitur and funny phrases; you’d hear replies like: ‘LO JE AYE E’, ‘LO JE IKU’, LO JE INOMONOMONO (which literary translates to ‘go and eat electricity’). One true characteristics that stands Zik Hall out is the propensity for everything to be done in unison and oneness.
It’s only in Zik and believe me you can’t find it elsewhere, where everything is regarded the opposite.
When power supply arrives, you hear everyone scream at the top of their voices ‘E MU INO LO O’
When the Hall is ridded of power supply, you may still hear the same ritualistic phrase ‘E MU INO LO O’ I do wonder, and ask myself often times in very hard fits of laughter, predominantly, questions such as ‘WHAT’S WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? WHICH LIGHT ARE THEY SAYING SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY?‘
It is also not grotesque and new in Zik where on very theatrical-looking occasions when window panes are broken, you hear funny and ludicrous voices emanating from every vertices of the Hall like spiky elephant grasses sprouting thick, reeling insults and banters at whoever caused the incident.
Well, everything is all a joke and one of the very smart and interesting ways for Zikites to relieve themselves of stress and the very tasking workload of studying. We also form new relationships amongst ourselves and strengthen existing ones as positive by-products.
For me, I believe Zik is the Hall worthy of being allocated to and spending a significant time of my studying in UI. After all, spending my time away from my family to study in UI has not been bad because here in Zik, my brothers are not different from my typical family. There’s no depression in Zik because every impression is depression-killing.
Whoever stays true to ZIKISM no go suffer.
