The University of Ibadan , established in 1948 and has the motto "RECTE SAPERE FONS" a Latin expression whose English equivalent is "Right Thinking is the fount of knowledge" .
UI ,arguably reputed to be the most highly rated tertiary institution in Nigeria , has kick-started plans to once again open its gates wide to offer an opportunity of admission to candidates who must have attained a minimum score of 200 in their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and have taken the bold step to make the University of Ibadan their first choice of tertiary institution when filling the JAMB form. Plans are now underway to set the ball rolling .The set date for the test has been slated for the 6th to the 10th of April ,2021. Whilst there were speculations that the exams would be conducted online where the candidates would be able to take the test from their various locations , that however didn't turn out to be the case as candidates can now check for the details of their exams that comprises the day , time ,venue ,seat number amidst other things they need to know concerning the exam.
The cut-off point for different departments and faculties vary ,depending on the competitiveness of the course.The candidate's UTME and Post UTME scores play vital roles at arriving at the aggregate point. The current means of calculating one's aggregate score based on precedent involves dividing one's UTME score by eight and adding the result to the post-utme score divided by two. For instance if a candidate , whose name is Uzo Ade Yusuf has a UTME score of 290 and a post-utme score of 77,his aggregate will be calculated thus:
UTME 290/8 = 36.25 , POST UTME 77/2 = 38.5
36.25 + 38.5 = 74.75 i.e Uzo Ade Yusuf’s aggregate point is 74.75 , he will now wait to see if his score meets the required cut-off point for his favoured department or faculty.
The 2019/2020 post UTME exercise had 20, 957 hopefuls in total , with 5 candidates ranking from first to third in order of excellence as follows :
- Ijeoma Chidinma Nwanevu of Medicine and Surgery who garnered a whooping score of 92%
- Ijezie Ifeanyi Collins of Medicine and Surgery with a score of 91%
- Oyoyo Henry Damien of Medicine and Surgery with a score of 90%
- Olaniyi Elijah Oloruntomisin of Medicine and Surgery with a score of 90%
- Abraham Miracle Ifeoluwani of Medicine and Surgery with a score of 90%
