Nigerians with Grammy Wins

Grammy Award is a renowned international award in the world of music given to music artists to recognize their massive contribution to the musical regime. Here are the list of the Nigerians who have won the Grammy:


I) Sade Adu: Sade Adu a female Nigerian artist emerged as the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Grammy awards. The award winning singer/ songwriter, Sade Adu, through the course of her career bagged four different Grammy awards where she got the last in the year 2011.


2) Sikiru Adepoju: The percussionist and recording artist won his first Grammy in 1991 as part of Mickey Hart’s group planet Drum. He won his second award with the same group in 2009 at the 51st annual Grammy awards Los Angeles.


3) Seal: The British- Nigerian singer/ songwriter won his first Grammy awards in 1994 due to his recognition of his popular work on ‘ Kiss from a Rose’ which earned him three Grammy awards in 1996. He bagged his 4th award in 2011.


4) Wizkid: the award-winning singer just bagged his first Grammy award at the 63rd Grammy in March 14, this year, for his feature in Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl. He’s previously nominated in 2015 for feature in Drake’s album.


5) Babatunde Olatunji: The talented Nigerian drummer was part of Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum Projects, including the album planet drum. The album won the Grammy awards for Best World Music Album of the year 1991. He passed away in 2011.


6) Lekan Babalola is a Nigerian jazz percussionist and musician who have won two Grammy Awards to his name. He bagged his first Grammy Award for his work on Ali Touré’s in the ‘Heart of the Moon’. His second Grammy Award Grammy Awards come in 2009 for his work in Cassandra Wilson’s 2008 album titled ‘Loverly’.

7) Kevin Olusola: is a talented young Nigerian musician, beatboxer, cellist, rapper, record producer, singer and songwriter best known as the beatboxer of the Vocal Band Pentatonix. He bagged three awards, winning back to back to back in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

8) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: The renowned author was nominated in the year 2015 for her feature Beyonce’s album which won the album of the Year category.

9) Burna Boy: Burna’s first nomination came in 2020 for his album ‘African Giant ’ in the Best Music Album Category. On March 14, his latest album, Twice as Tall, earned him Grammy Award for the first time.
